About Weider's Pool & Spa Department

Rochester's pool season runs about fifteen weeks, and nobody wants to lose three of them to cloudy water. We stock the chlorine, shock, balancers, and cleaning gear that keep a backyard pool swimmable from Memorial Day through the last warm weekend in September. Our Honeoye Falls and Fairport/Perinton stores will also test your water while you wait, so you leave with the right product instead of a guess.

Pool Water Testing in Honeoye Falls & Fairport/Perinton

Bring us a sample and we'll tell you what your pool actually needs. Fill a clean container with about a pint of water, drawn elbow-deep and away from the return jets, and bring it in the same day. We test free chlorine, pH, total alkalinity, calcium hardness, and stabilizer, then walk you through what to add and in what order. It takes a few minutes and there's no appointment.

Water testing is available at Honeoye Falls and Fairport/Perinton. All three stores carry pool chemicals and supplies.

Bring a sample in when:

• You're opening the pool in spring or closing it in fall
• The water turns cloudy or green, or starts burning through chlorine faster than usual
• You've topped off after a drawdown, a liner change, or a week of heavy rain
• Your eyes sting and the pool smells strongly of chlorine, which usually means chloramines have built up
• You want a baseline before buying a season's worth of chemicals

Pool Chemicals

Most pool problems come back to balance. Chlorine stops working when the pH drifts, and shock won't hold if the stabilizer is low. We carry the full range so you can correct one thing at a time instead of dumping in product and hoping.

We carry:

• Chlorine tablets in 1" and 3", plus granular and liquid chlorine
• Pool shock, including chlorine-free options for same-day swimming
• Algaecide, clarifier, and flocculant
• pH increaser and decreaser, alkalinity increaser, calcium hardness increaser
• Chlorine stabilizer (cyanuric acid)
• Pool salt for saltwater chlorine generators
• Metal and stain control for pools filled from a well
• Spa and hot tub chemicals: bromine tablets, spa shock, defoamer, and filter cleaner
• Test strips and liquid test kits for checking between store visits

If you fill from a well, iron in the water will stain a liner rust-brown within a season. Add a sequestrant as you fill and again at each top-off, and bring us a sample once the pool is full.

Cleaning Supplies & Pool Equipment

We carry:

• Skimmer nets, leaf rakes, and telescoping poles
• Wall and floor brushes, vacuum heads, and vacuum hose
• Filter sand, and filter cleaner
• Hoses, fittings, gaskets, and o-rings
• Vinyl liner patch kits for above-ground pools
• Pool thermometers, skimmer socks, and test kit refills

Pools, Floats & Pool Toys

Summer stock, in stores roughly from May through August:

• Hard-plastic wading pools for toddlers
• Hand and electric air pumps
• Floats, tubes, and loungers

Opening and Closing Your Pool

Closing matters more here than it does in most of the country. A pool that goes into a Rochester winter unbalanced comes out in April with a stained liner and a filter full of algae, and that's an expensive weekend to fix.

We carry:

• Winterizing chemical kits
• Pool antifreeze, skimmers, and return plugs
• Cover pumps for pulling standing water off the cover in spring

Come see us in late September before the first hard freeze, and again once you've pulled the cover in May.

Pool Supplies Near You in the Rochester Area

Driving to a dedicated pool store on a Saturday to buy one jug of algaecide is a waste of an afternoon. Our Honeoye Falls store on West Main Street serves Mendon, Rush, Lima, and the southern Monroe County towns. Our Fairport/Perinton store on Moseley Road is convenient to Fairport, Penfield, Bushnell's Basin, and Victor. Brighton is a few minutes from Pittsford and Twelve Corners.

Bring a water sample to Honeoye Falls or Fairport/Perinton and our team will test it and tell you what to buy. This department pairs with our outdoor, lawn & garden department for hoses and yard care, and our grilling department for everything else that happens in the backyard between June and September.
