Paint Color Matching

You loved the color. You don't know what it's called, the can is long gone, or the label peeled off in the basement. Bring us a piece of it and we'll match it.

Our paint counters at all three Rochester-area stores read a physical sample and mix the formula on the spot, in the brand and sheen you want.

How It Works

  1. Bring in a sample. About 1x1 inch, clean and flat. A paint chip, a piece of trim, a cabinet door, a fabric swatch, or a drawer front all work.
  2. We read the color. Our matching equipment scans the sample and builds a formula.
  3. We tint and mix. Choose your brand and sheen, and we tint the base while you wait.

What You Can Bring In

  • A chip off a painted wall or trim
  • An old paint can or dried lid
  • A drawer front, cabinet door, or piece of molding
  • Fabric, a pillow, a tile, or a countertop offcut
  • A paint chip card from another store

Getting the Best Match

A flat, clean sample reads more accurately than a curved or dusty one. If you can, take the sample from a spot that hasn't been in direct sun, like inside a closet or behind a picture frame. Sun-faded paint matches the faded color, not the original.

Bigger samples are easier to read than tiny ones. If you're chipping paint off a wall, aim for at least a fingernail-sized flake.

Brands & Sheens We Tint

We tint matched colors into Benjamin Moore, Valspar, and Rust-Oleum products, in flat, eggshell, satin, and semi-gloss. We tint primer too, which helps when a matched color is much darker or lighter than what's on the wall now.

For anything outside our stocked lines, including specialty and industrial coatings, we can source the product and tint to your color.

Matching Paint for Large Jobs

Property managers, contractors, and facilities crews use us to keep a color consistent across units and buildings. Our business solutions team can quote the volume, keep your formula on file for reorders, and arrange pickup or delivery to the site.

Why Weiders

Any Sample, Any Brand

Our in-store color-matching technology reads and re-creates your sample's exact color, regardless of the original paint brand.

Available at All Three Stores

Paint matching is offered at every Weiders location — Brighton, Honeoye Falls, and Fairport/Perinton.

A Physical Match Beats Guessing From a Screen

An accurate in-person color match avoids the costly repaint that often follows an online or photo-based color guess.

Frequently Asked Questions

What size sample do you need to match a color?

We recommend a sample about 1"×1" — clean, flat, and free of dust or grime — for the most accurate match.

Can you match any paint brand, not just what you carry?

Yes — our color-matching technology reads the actual color, so it can re-create a match regardless of the original brand.

Can you match a color from a photo?

Not reliably — photos are affected by lighting and screen calibration, which can throw off the match significantly. A physical sample gives a far more accurate result.

How long does color matching take?

Typically just a few minutes, done in-store while you wait — no need to schedule ahead.
