Propane Refill and Exchange in Rochester, NY

Weiders offers on-site propane refill at Honeoye Falls and AmeriGas tank exchange at Fairport/Perinton. Which one you want comes down to price, how much propane you want, and whether you want your own tank back.

Honeoye Falls refills propane tanks on site. Bring your cylinder, we fill it, and you take the same tank home. A standard 20 lb grill tank starts at $14.96. Larger cylinders are filled by the gallon, typically $3 to $4 per gallon.

Fairport/Perinton handles tank exchange through AmeriGas. You hand over an eligible empty and walk out with a full one. Exchange starts at $24.49, and eligible standard cylinders from Blue Rhino and other brands are accepted.

Brighton does not refill or exchange tanks on site, but propane tanks can be delivered there from another Weiders store. Call Brighton at (585) 270-6035 to make arrangements.

Fairport/Perinton and Brighton do not fill RV tanks. RV filling is available at Honeoye Falls only.

Is It Cheaper to Refill or Exchange?

Refilling is cheaper. A 20 lb grill tank refilled at Honeoye Falls starts at $14.96, against $24.49 to exchange one at Fairport/Perinton. You also keep your own tank.

A refill may also give you more propane. AmeriGas exchange cylinders are not guaranteed to contain as much propane as a tank filled on site.

Exchange is faster. It takes about a minute, there's no waiting on a fill, and it's the easy answer when your cylinder is old, rusted, or past its date stamp, because you hand that tank off and get a current one back.

Drive to Honeoye Falls if you want the lower price, want your own tank back, or need the tank filled on site. Stop at Fairport/Perinton if you want to be in and out or your cylinder has seen better days. Brighton customers can call (585) 270-6035 to arrange delivery from another Weiders store.

Propane Refills at Honeoye Falls

Our Honeoye Falls store fills propane tanks on site at 166 West Main Street.

We fill 20 lb grill tanks, the standard BBQ and gas grill size, starting at $14.96. We also fill 1 lb camping cylinders, portable cylinders up to 100 lb, and RV tanks. Anything above grill size is priced by the gallon, typically $3 to $4 per gallon, so you pay for what goes in.

Pull up with the tank or the RV. If you have an unusual cylinder, or you need the fill done at a particular time, call or text (585) 412-2403 before you leave home.

Propane Tank Exchange at Fairport/Perinton

Fairport/Perinton runs propane tank exchange through AmeriGas. Bring an eligible empty portable tank, trade it in, and take a full one. Exchange starts at $24.49.

We exchange through AmeriGas, but the cylinder you bring does not need to be AmeriGas-branded. Eligible standard cylinders from Blue Rhino and other brands are accepted for exchange.

AmeriGas exchange cylinders are not guaranteed to contain as much propane as a tank filled on site. If price, propane quantity, or keeping your own tank matters most, refill at Honeoye Falls instead.

Fairport/Perinton does not refill customer tanks and does not fill RV tanks. Brighton does not offer exchange or refill on site. For any refill, including RV, go to Honeoye Falls.

Grill and BBQ Propane

A standard gas grill runs on a 20 lb propane tank, and that's the size we handle most.

If you're already at Fairport/Perinton for a grill, exchange is the easy add-on. The store carries Weber, Traeger, and Big Green Egg, and you can swap an eligible tank on the way out for $24.49. If you'd rather refill your own, pay less, and potentially receive more propane, Honeoye Falls fills the same tank starting at $14.96.

If you're buying a grill at Brighton and want propane with it, call (585) 270-6035 to arrange delivery from another Weiders store.

To check how much is left in a tank, pour warm water down the side. The level where the metal turns cool is roughly where the propane sits. Worth doing before a cookout rather than halfway through one.

Propane Tanks for Sale

Weiders sells empty propane tanks in addition to filling and exchanging tanks. Available sizes can vary, so call the store before you drive if you need a particular size.

Buy an empty tank and have it filled at Honeoye Falls, or use an eligible standard tank for AmeriGas exchange at Fairport/Perinton. Brighton customers can call (585) 270-6035 to arrange delivery from another Weiders store.

Propane Tank Disposal

Old propane cylinders don't belong in household trash or recycling.

Honeoye Falls accepts propane tanks for disposal for a $5 fee. Bring the cylinder in with the valve closed and hand it to someone at the counter. Don't leave it outside or in the parking lot.

If the tank still holds pressure and you're replacing it only because it's out of date, exchange it at Fairport/Perinton instead. You'll get a current tank back.

Tank Recertification

Weiders does not recertify propane tanks. If your cylinder is past its date stamp, exchange it at Fairport/Perinton. You hand over the expired tank, get a current one, and skip booking a recertification appointment anywhere.

Honeoye Falls may decline to refill a cylinder that's out of date, damaged, heavily rusted, or missing its required markings. Call ahead if you're unsure about yours.

What We Don't Do

Weiders refills portable cylinders up to 100 lb and RV tanks at Honeoye Falls, and exchanges eligible standard portable cylinders at Fairport/Perinton.

We don't deliver propane to homes, fill or service tanks installed at a property, lease tanks, or run residential accounts. Delivery to the Brighton store is available, but residential delivery is not. If you heat with propane or have a 250 or 500 gallon tank on your property, you'll need a delivery company.

Before You Bring a Propane Tank

Keep the cylinder upright, close the valve, and secure it so it can't shift or roll on the drive. Never transport a leaking cylinder, and don't leave a propane tank sitting in a parked vehicle.

We may turn a tank away if its condition or markings make it unsafe or ineligible. Call the store first if your cylinder is damaged, heavily rusted, missing markings, or an unusual size or design.

Propane for Grills, Heaters, and Outdoor Equipment

Propane runs grills, patio heaters, portable heaters, and RV appliances. Our Heating & Cooling department stocks seasonal heating products and accessories, and our Outdoor Tools and Power Equipment department handles outdoor equipment, parts, and seasonal maintenance supplies.

Buying a large heater or a piece of outdoor equipment? Ask whether pickup, delivery, or assembly is available for it. That doesn't change where propane refills happen.
