Weiders sharpens almost anything with an edge on it. Kitchen knives, scissors and shears, mower blades, chainsaw chains, drill and router bits, hand planes and chisels, hedge trimmers, professional saw blades, paper cutter blades, and industrial blades all come through our shop.

Most straight-edge kitchen knives are sharpened while you shop, on the automated ReSHARP machines at our stores. Everything else goes to our dedicated sharpening shop, where our technicians work on commercial grinding equipment. Drop off at Weiders Paint & Hardware in Brighton or at the Weiders Ace Hardware stores in Honeoye Falls and Fairport/Perinton. If an item is too big or awkward to carry in, we'll come get it.

ReSHARP Knife Sharpening While You Shop

Bring your kitchen knives to any Weiders location and our team runs them through the ReSHARP machine at the counter. The machine scans each blade and grinds it back to a factory edge, so you get a consistent result on a paring knife, a chef's knife, or a santoku. Most customers hand over their knives, finish their shopping, and pick them up on the way out.

Small batches of 6 knives or fewer are typically done while you wait. Larger batches may stay with us for a day.

Scissors, kitchen shears, fabric scissors, pinking shears, metal cutting shears, and left-handed scissors go to our sharpening shop rather than the counter machine. Typical turnaround is a few days.

What We Sharpen

If it has an edge, ask us. This list covers what comes through the shop most often.

A few items fall outside what we handle, including straight razors, blades over 16 inches, and knife blanks. If you're not sure whether your item qualifies, call the shop before you make the trip and we'll tell you straight. If we can't do it, we usually know who can.

Saw Blade Sharpening and Carbide Retipping

We sharpen carbide-tipped and steel saw blades for woodworking shops, cabinet makers, contractors, and anyone running a table saw in a garage. Our technicians grind the face and top of each tooth back to spec, so the blade cuts clean instead of burning and chipping the stock.

When teeth are broken or missing, we replace them. New carbide teeth are brazed on and ground to match the rest of the blade, which brings a good blade back into service for a fraction of what it costs to buy new. A quality 10-inch blade is usually worth retipping several times over.

We also repair small chips and nicks in knives and blades. An edge that took a hit on a bone or a nail doesn't need to be replaced.

Weiders is an Authorized Stihl Dealer and Service Center and an Authorized Ego Dealer and Service Center. That means chainsaw chains, hedge trimmer blades, and pole saw bars get worked on by technicians who are trained and certified on the equipment, not just handed to whoever is free.

Bring in your chainsaw and we'll sharpen the chain and check the bar, sprocket, and depth gauges while it's here. If the saw itself needs work, our service department handles warranty and non-warranty repair on Stihl and Ego equipment along with several other brands.

Three Ways to Get Us Your Tools

Drop off at any store. Brighton, Honeoye Falls, and Fairport/Perinton all take sharpening. We'll write up your ticket, take payment at drop-off so there's nothing to settle at pickup, and call you when it's ready.

Pickup and delivery. For a commercial mower deck, a stack of saw blades, or anything else too heavy or awkward to load into a car, we'll come to you anywhere in the Rochester area. There's a fee based on distance and load, so contact us for a quote.

Mail it in. If you're outside the area, you can ship saw blades, bits, and other small tools to us. Contact us first and we'll confirm pricing and give you a shipping address and packing instructions.

Our Sharpening Shop

Weiders runs a dedicated sharpening shop in the region, staffed by technicians who sharpen for a living. The shop is set up with commercial grinding equipment for carbide, steel, and specialty edges, which is why we can take on industrial work alongside the household knives.

Weiders has been in Rochester since 1879, when John A. Weider opened a horse-and-harness supply business on Spring Street. The sharpening service runs on the same idea the store was founded on: give people what they want, done right, without a lot of hassle.
