Weiders Hardware is hiring an experienced handyman to handle in-home installation and repair work for our customers. This is a customer-facing role: you'll arrive at the job, size it up, do the work correctly the first time, and leave the house cleaner than you found it. You'll be working on your own most days, so we need someone who can make good calls without checking in — and who understands that to the homeowner, you are Weiders Hardware.
Responsibilities
- Complete installations at customer homes and small businesses: doors and locksets, storm doors, screens, blinds and window treatments, ceiling fans and light fixtures, faucets and toilets, shelving, mailboxes, appliance hookups, weatherstripping, minor carpentry and drywall repair.
- Assess job scope on arrival, identify anything outside the quoted work, and get customer sign-off before proceeding.
- Pick up materials at the store, track what's used on each job, and return unused stock.
- Give the customer a clear walkthrough at completion and answer their questions in plain language.
- Keep the job site protected and clean — drop cloths down, debris hauled out.
- Submit job notes, time, and photos daily so we can invoice accurately.
- Flag work that's beyond handyman scope (anything requiring a licensed electrician or plumber, structural work, permits) rather than taking it on.
- Maintain a professional appearance and manner in customers' homes.
Requirements
- 5+ years of hands-on experience across carpentry, basic plumbing, and basic electrical.
- Own truck or van in reliable, presentable condition, plus a full set of basic hand and power tools.
- Valid NYS driver's license and a clean driving record.
- Able to work unsupervised and solve problems on the spot.
- Comfortable talking with homeowners, including when a job turns out to be different than expected.
- Able to lift 75 lbs, work from ladders, and handle stairs and crawlspaces.
- Smartphone use for scheduling, photos, and job notes.
- Willing to submit to a background check — customers are letting you into their homes.
- Preferred: prior experience in a retail hardware, home improvement, or service-call setting.
